1. LIGHTS ALL ASKEW IN THE HEAVENS; Men of Science More or Less Agog Over Results of Eclipse Observations. EINSTEIN THEORY TRIUMPHS Stars Not Where They Seemed or Were Calculated to be, but Nobody Need Worry. A BOOK FOR 12 WISE MEN No More in All the World Could Comprehend It, Said Einstein When His Daring Publishers Accepted It.

1919: The NYT announces empirical confirmation of Einstein’s Theory of General relativity.

“LONDON, Nov. 9.—Efforts made to put in words intelligible to the nonscientific public the Einstein theory of light proved by the eclipse expedition so far have not been very successful.”

  3. “Nobody I know cares about “stars,” except for the ones in the sky. My friends are all blue collar connoisseurs who celebrate the moment and the timeless, while Twinkies and Wonder Bread gather dust. Some of my loved ones I can reach out and touch, some are scattered across the globe, and some I’ve never even seen before; we’re just like-minded spirits talking across the ether. Or being quiet across the ether.

“Snow is still falling somewhere. This is what’s happening, this is what’s best, this is home, this is Eden.”

  4. “The current issue of the journal Science contains a proposal to slow global warming that is extraordinary for a couple of reasons:

    2. In practice, it might actually work.”

    The Shins - Simple Song

it’s a little unsettling to watch a band change from being the youthful cutting edge to the time-weathered old ranch hands, because of how much aging it means i’ve done over the course of listening to them.  regardless, i am happy that they are about to release another album, and this is a nice new song.

  9. You’ll be told in a hundred ways, some subtle and some not, to keep climbing, and never be satisfied with where you are, who you are, and what you’re doing. There are a million ways to sell yourself out, and I guarantee you’ll hear about them.

To invent your own life’s meaning is not easy, but it’s still allowed, and I think you’ll be happier for the trouble.”
